Birthday Dinner at Doppio Zero

In our family we have a tradition. Every year on our birthdays we have to try a new restaurant ( no repeats allowed). It allows us to enjoy a new experience together as a family and to indulge in some great food.

This year we had the absolute pleasure of dining at Doppio Zero at the Pearl of Umhlanga. The food was incredible and the menu is perfect for those picky eaters, catering for almost all your dietary requirements. My parents ordered a gluten free pizza which was divine from their raves! I ordered a salad (I know who orders a salad for their birthday but if you read my previous post you’d know I ate quite a lot of food just before this). But honestly it was one of the most flavourful and delicious meals I’ve had. I ordered the soul bowl, a green thai curry flavoured salad with bulgur wheat, quinoa, chicken, veggies and cashews, it was so good I had to bring some home (and since I couldn’t finish it). Dessert was a complimentary chocolate cheesecake; basically a rich and heavenly, mouth-watering goodness decorated with a happy 20th birthday! It wasn’t just the food and warm toned ambiance that made the evening so cozy and wonderful.

It was the astounding service that truly made that night a memorable one!

If you’re ever visiting Doppio Zero make sure you ask for the “New Amanda” (theres 2 and she said everyone knows her as the new one). Amanda made me believe that good quality service still exists in South Africa. She had such an amazing energy and aura going out of her way to make my night feel special. She was witty and engaging and played such a huge role in our night. We had brought our own bottle of champagne and just as she poured our glasses she told us all to wait before hurrying to fetch 3 strawberry slices that she added to each glass. It’s a little thing but in that moment it added so much value. She was even so graceful to take photos as we did a little toast trying to catch all the angles!
